ASA Live Produces EU Winter Skate Activation in Ottawa
This January, Ottawa embraced the warmth and unity of European culture with the inaugural EU Winter Skate Activation at the Lansdowne Skating Rink. Despite the coldest two days of the season, the event brought together families, friends, and communities for a memorable celebration filled with skating, music, and cultural delights.
A Parade of Nations on Ice
One of the highlights of the event was the Parade of Nations, where representatives from EU member states skated proudly with their national flags. This colourful and joyous spectacle was accompanied by the NCC's Winterlude Ice Hog Family, creating a festive and inclusive atmosphere that invited public participation.
European Union Cafe
At the heart of the event was the European Union Cafe, a cozy haven where visitors could escape the winter chill. Adorned with rustic wooden decor and soft textures, the cafe offered an array of European treats, including luxurious hot chocolates, fragrant teas, and soul-soothing coffees. Thanks to generous sponsorship from Dutch Groceries and donations from La Bottega, attendees enjoyed a taste of Europe right in Ottawa.
Captivating Visuals and Entertainment
The giant LED screen was a crowd favourite, showcasing stunning visuals and engaging content that kept the atmosphere lively. The DJ spun family-friendly Canadian and European tunes, adding to the festive vibe and eliciting positive comments from the public. Attendees also appreciated the clear signage and the event’s free and open nature, which was made possible through collaboration with the City of Ottawa.
Supporting Local Charities
The EU Winter Skate Activation also made a positive impact on the community by supporting the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa and Raising the Roof. The event provided space for these charities to share their messages and raised donations to support their causes.
Looking Ahead
While the extreme cold affected attendance, the event successfully demonstrated the community’s enthusiasm for cultural celebrations. Based on feedback, future events may be shorter, one-day gatherings to better accommodate winter conditions.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated, sponsored, and attended the EU Winter Skate Activation. Your support and enthusiasm made this event a wonderful success. We look forward to more opportunities to celebrate European culture and unity in Ottawa!
